Best of 2019

If you read my Best of 2018 post, I talked about how I hit a lull in all areas of life, resulting in a much needed hiatus from photography. This year, though, was spent coming back from all of that: Working on myself and my life from the inside-out. I like to think of 2019 as my come back year. 🙂

I spent a lot of time this year thinking about ways that I could get back to truly enjoying photography again. In previous years, I practically photographed any and every type of session that I got an inquiry about, which I think was a necessary part of finding my place and learning about what I want to do in the photography world, but also left me feeling drained. As much as I enjoyed so many elements of wedding photography, I discovered that they were the part of my photography business that took the energy out of me. The sessions I did that made me feel the most like myself and the most inspired were the more intimate ones that documented a smaller moment in time. I think that when we are old and gray and looking back on the life we lived, the defining moments of that will be the more mundane, every day ones. And that is what I love to capture. So not only was this a come-back year, but it was a year of self-discovery!

Words cannot express the gratitude I feel towards every single person who hired me this year and invited me in to capture a special time in their lives. Whether it was an engagement session, a family session, a first-home session, an every-day session etc., I am so thankful for each and every one.

So here’s to 2020. May it be filled with triumphs & challenges, learning & growth, love & laughter, and may it be our best year yet!
